In RFEM 5 and RSTAB 8, you can save problems and warnings occurring during the model check as an extra view. This way, you can easily work through the hints and messages, one after the other, cleaning the model. The function is available for double nodes, overlapping members/lines, and surfaces.
When modeling in RFEM, double lines may be created. To quickly find and delete them, if necessary, RFEM 5 allows you to export overlapping lines. This is possible, for example, in Excel or in a separate group of sections.
Generally, overlapping members in the model are not desired. To prevent RFEM from deleting an already defined member if another member is placed upon it, select "Allow Double Members" on the "Edit" menu.
When modeling with finite elements, sooner or later you come up with the question of how two surfaces (2D elements) lying on top of each other can be modeled. Hence, both surfaces are often modeled in the same plane. The possible consequences of this approach, and whether there are better solutions, are described below.
From time to time, two intersecting beams overlap at a short distance. Such a structure raises the question, with regard to the modeling, of how it is possible to consider a contact with force transmission under compression between the two beams, while the contact under tension (for example, in case of a lifting top beam) should fail.
A previous article presented different variants of surface elastic foundations in addition to the traditional subgrade reaction modulus method. The following article describes another method for surface foundation. This method considers the adjacent ground areas by means of a foundation overlap. In this case, foundation parameters refer to the continuing works by Pasternak and Barwaschow.
In the case of very small distances between isolines, the labels often overlap, which makes the result documentation difficult. As of RFEM version 5.06, you can select a shifted arrangement of the isoline labels in the Display Properties dialog box. By selecting the "Show values shifted" option, you can easily avoid overlapping the result values in many cases.
A modell check allows you to find overlapping members, among other things. However, this targeted selection could cause some minor problems. Therefore, there is a selection window now available, which appears when you click on one of the elements. This appears by clicking on one of the elements. Additional information helps you to select the correct member.
